Temperature ratings for sleeping bags and mattresses are determined using a test designed by ASTM. There is no test designed for a modular sleep system that integrates a mattress with insulation layers.

The values below are estimates based on field experience and feedback we’ve received while testing the Badger Bed in different environments.

We recommend a sleeping pad with an insulation level / R Value of 6+. This high R Value creates a thermal barrier between you and the cold ground or cold air. You loose a lot of heat from below, so a quality mattress is key to being comfortable.

The Badger Bed Baja Bundle should keep you warm above 40 degrees. Add a Sierra Down Quilt to reach around 10 degrees, or a Frontier Wool Blanket to reach around 0 degrees.

Shelter, heat sources, weather conditions can effect these recommendations.

The Badger Bed is designed to allow you to quickly add additional layers to keep you warm in nearly every environment.
